Necropsy on a Toucan. Nothing out of the normal, except for the larvae we found in muscle, but when checked on the microscope the teacher couldn’t find the head in any of the larvae… Does anybody know what parasites can be found in muscle? No trichinella!
It’s been years since the last time I posted something, well not years but a semester or something… But I promise that I’m back to stay. At school, one of the requirements so one can graduate is doing volunteer work :) and lucky me got to do it at a park full of horses… So many of the post will be of those horses… So wait for those pics :)
Sorry for not posting right now, I’m on vacation and well I’m trying to enjoy my family whom I haven’t seen in like a year because of school… But I’ll be back in a month or so.. Happy summer guys!!!
Two weeks ago we went to a Dairy Farm, they had around 200 female calves at the moment. When a female calf is born, she is immediately separate from her mom and put in a calf hutch where she will be until she is three months old.
Male calves don’t have any value, so they are sold as soon as possible. The girls are taken care of, at 14 months old they need to have a 2.9 condition.
For older cows, the farm has around 2000 dairy cows, they have food all day. A cow in reproduction has between 10-15 meals a day, each one lasting around 15-20 minutes.
The farm has a rotary milking parlor, where cows are eager to enter. The process last six hours in the morning and six hours in the afternoon. Because they want the cows to stress the less possible, they play classic music for the cows to listen and in the end. They collect around 45,000 lts. of milk at the end of the day.
(I’m the girl in purple scrubs, we slept like half an hour in the milking room, some people had a handover…)
Nice weather in that room! XD
I wanted to post about the dairy cattle I went to see, but right know I’m with my terminal projects and doing a presentation on Quinolones for pharmacology… Its not due until Tuesday, but I have so many things to do… I hate ends of semesters, two more weeks and its all over!
I’ve been so busy with school and life lately that I haven’t find the time to post anything… Also I’ve been working in a really big family project with my dad that takes time away too… But here a pretty pic of a lovely baby goat that’s smiling :D My friends got one day to the corral, and surprise! TWINS!!! I love them, they are the cutest, and love to jump, somehow they enter where the sheep are and steal their food…
It is so nice to know that people are interested in my tumblr, even though I don’t post that much because of time and the need of a new camera… And I’m the one that has to thank you for following, it feels great to have followers that interested on what it’s like to be a vet stud… Hope to still hear from you and that my posts keeps you motivated :)
Yesterday we went to Cofradia Ranch, some not so pretty place our school has outside the city for the vet students… Anyhow we went to obtain some ejaculate from a male pig, we saw the sperm under the microscope but my camera died… but here some pics…
Also we had to castrate another male, who had a hernia which gave us trouble and took some of our valuable time, and also castrated some babies as well but sadly I couldn’t take pics of the babies cause I was really lost at the process that I completely forgot about my camera… Everything is done fast and you may notice some missing things…
The funny thing, after all the trouble we went through because of the hernia, the pig was happily in his four legs and looking for something to eat, and when he sneezed he kind of pooped and got my friend’s clothes dirty XD jajaja it was so funny, I love this career! :D
