E.M.V.Z. Girl

I am a vet and zootechnics student in Mexico. I'll be starting my 6 semester and I can't be more excited. This blog is about my experience as a student and everything that has to do with Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics...

Feel free to ask me anything.

Necropsy on a Toucan

Necropsy on a Toucan. Nothing out of the normal, except for the larvae we found in muscle, but when checked on the microscope the teacher couldn’t find the head in any of the larvae… Does anybody know what parasites can be found in muscle? No trichinella!

So this guy is 7 years old and his name is Pecas… The other day the owner came to me and asked me what had I done to his horse… I looked at the horse and told him that I had never touch his horse. He told me that we (my friend and I) had given Pecas medication because he was sneezing.
I caught him lying! I said to him “First, I always remember the names of the horses I give treatment to and the reason for the treatment; second, WE give IM injections in the neck, not in the top of the rump.”
Then he started laughing and told me that maybe one of his workers had done it and he didn’t know what medication the horse was given. I called our supervisor and he went four days after to drain because there was already purulence.
I’m just hoping for all the owners of these horses to open up their eyes and see that those horses are much more than money makers.

I also have Surgery!!!! Ahhh I can hear angels signing when I write the word… SURGERY! But because of many problems with society, mainly ignorant animal protectors, there are no pictures at the surgery room u.u but I´ll share with you the recovery pics… I can´t wait to start sharing with you guys…

We went to a cattle exposition this past Wednesday and I felt in love with this Sardo Negro… Perfect for meat and milk, what else could you ask for?

I’ve been so busy with school and life lately that I haven’t find the time to post anything… Also I’ve been working in a really big family project with my dad that takes time away too… But here a pretty pic of a lovely baby goat that’s smiling :D My friends got one day to the corral, and surprise! TWINS!!! I love them, they are the cutest, and love to jump, somehow they enter where the sheep are and steal their food…

Finally!

Yesterday we went to Cofradia Ranch, some not so pretty place our school has outside the city for the vet students… Anyhow we went to obtain some ejaculate from a male pig, we saw the sperm under the microscope but my camera died… but here some pics…

Also we had to castrate another male, who had a hernia which gave us trouble and took some of our valuable time, and also castrated some babies as well but sadly I couldn’t take pics of the babies cause I was really lost at the process that I completely forgot about my camera… Everything is done fast and you may notice some missing things…

The funny thing, after all the trouble we went through because of the hernia, the pig was happily in his four legs and looking for something to eat, and when he sneezed he kind of pooped and got my friend’s clothes dirty XD jajaja it was so funny, I love this career! :D
